Updated Conditions - The Sun Is Out

It is now 10:15 am and the wind has become stronger and is now out of the south. The fog is cleared and the sun is bright. The dew is off and the dogs are responding to the difference in the scenting conditions in that they cannot wind it as easily.

We are here on the Parramore Fish property today for the Ninth and Tenth Series.

The temperature is 46 degrees and there is heavy dew covering the ground. We are waiting for the fog to lift before we can start the Ninth Series.

Conditions Update

The winds have increased through out the afternoon today. They have ranged from ESE to E causing it to be at the handler's face for a cross wind. The shadows have began to extend through the area of the retired guns. Both could be factors affecting the routes the dogs area taking to the marks.

As The Sun Goes Down

Coming onto 4:30 this evening the shadows are totally covering the area of the fall for both retired guns. The arc of the bird however can still be followed.

Conditions - Series 4

The wind has increased coming from the ENE at 14 mph. The shadows have pretty much left the field and the area of the falls. The wind has influenced the fall of the pheasant flyer making it harder to hit. The wind is cold but the sun has burned off the morning dew.

Conditions - Third Series

At 11:33 am the sun is bright and the lighting conditions are excellent.  The wind is at the handlers back and coming more ENE at 8-10 mph.

Conditions Update

As we were nearing the end of the second series, the temps as raised to 54 degrees but the wind has also increased coming from NE at about 6-10 mph. The sun is making every bird stand out. NE breeze appears to be helping the dogs when they get a little deep of the middle and left birds.

Conditions - Second Series

The middle bird continues to give the dogs trouble, however the sun is coming out now so perhaps work will be influenced. The winds have been steady throughout the morning but now are increasing slightly. The winds are still coming out of the north as showers in area are moving out. The temperatures have jumped into the upper 50's.

Conditions Update

Our late morning conditions has seemed to improve the dog work.

Seven dogs had run without a handle as a result of the change in the wind – now coming from the Northeast at 8 mph – as we haves not seen any change in the handling of the dogs.

Let's see what our afternoon brings with these Georgia conditions.

Handling the First Series

The wind has picked up considerably and we have had several handles. The reason for this seems to be the tightness of the left hand and middle bird. When the dog is sent for the middle bird, they punch through it without establishing a hunt. Then they meander out and find the long gun, consequently having to handle on the short middle bird.

We have had thirteen handles so far …

Conditions

Coming up to 9:00 am we have had a total of four handles with three of them coming back to back. We have noticed that the wind is picking up a bit more and coming slightly more from the east.  The lighting is subdued and the sky is overcast.
